    Hello Patterson Panthers,

We are so excited to see our new and returning Panthers for the 2020-21 school year! This is certainly a unique situation and being back comes with many emotions during this time of managing COVID-19. Please know that I understand each of us has many feelings about the school year. We all want to be in school, while wanting an assurance of safety. Patterson staff is working hard to put plans in place that will follow district guidelines and expectations as well as the expectations defined by Jefferson County Public Health.

Principals continue to attend leadership meetings regarding the district’s implementation plan and how to best welcome back students and staff. I am meeting with our school leadership teams and other staff members regularly to customize safety and instruction plans for the specific needs of our school community. Safety continues to be my top priority while maintaining high quality learning and addressing the social emotional needs of our students.

This year, registration will again be online through your computer, (smart phones do not work with our system) starting this Monday, August 3rd through Wednesday, August 5th. If you need help, please call the office at 303-982-8470 and we will walk you through the process. If special circumstances occur for individuals that will need to come to school to use a district device please call the office 303-982-8470 to make an appointment.

Here is some preliminary information you should know:

    • The district announced their decision to open schools with 100% remote learning for a two-week period beginning August 24 through September 4. On September 8, school will open with a K-5th grade 100% in-person and with a 100% remote option for families and a 6-12th grade Hybrid with a 100% remote option. Families have the option to choose 100% remote-only learning.
    • In-person students will remain with the same cohort group the entire day, and will learn, recreate, transition, and eat together.
    • Masks are required to be worn by everyone.
    • Traffic flow within the building and procedures for entering and exiting the building will be defined and communicated to families once finalized.
    • All students and staff will be temperature screened and asked symptom questions upon arrival each day.
    • Desks or tables will be arranged facing the same direction. Students should be assigned their own bag/box of materials to use throughout the year. Supplies brought by students should ONLY be used by that student.
    • All meals and snacks will be consumed in classrooms or outside and monitored by staff. “Grab and Go” breakfast and lunches will be available.
    • We are working on a plan for lunch and recess. Students will eat with their class and have recess with only their class as well.
    • See the district Restart Plan for more details.

For now, I have a few things to ask of you as we prepare for the school year:

    1)    PLEASE READ: Here are links to the Restart Plan, and the Update to the Restart Plan. Please review and read these for information about the Restart Plan.

    2)    PLEASE COMPLETE SURVEYS: After reviewing the Restart Plan, families of Kindergarten - 5th graders please complete this Family Learning Model Preference Form, if you have not already, or if you have changed your first choice, for each student who will attend Patterson during the 2020/21 school year. 6th Graders will have a choice between the Hybrid or 100% online options in a survey coming next week to choose your option for 6th grade. All Students please complete this Patterson Student Device Questionnaire. These forms will help our school determine scheduling and resources. Please fill these surveys out BEFORE you register on Monday. This is important for our staff to plan for the upcoming school year.

    3)    PLEASE PRACTICE: Students and staff will be required to wear masks in the school building, unless they are eating.  Please have your student practice wearing a mask for extended periods of time.  Also, please have your student wash their hands several times a day.

    4)    PLEASE PURCHASE (if able): We will be needing greater quantities of hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes. If you are willing and able, please buy additional to donate to our school. The district is providing some materials but I am not sure of the quantity. We understand these items are also difficult to find.

    5)    PLEASE BE FLEXIBLE: Please be flexible with us this year!  We have not been through this unique situation before, but together we have the resources to support each other and make this a great year!

Thank you so much for your support. We are all in this together and I cannot think of a better community to support one another through this challenging time. Go Panthers!
